Position Summary

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis leads and scales a team responsible for monthly & quarterly forecasting, the annual budgeting process, cross-functional analysis, and special finance related projects for financial and strategic planning purposes. Serving as a trusted advisor to the CFO, the director provides financial consulting and strategic support to senior management, including preparing financial presentations, developing key reporting packages, capital expenditure analysis, and other projects requested by senior management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage Busey’s monthly forecasting, annual planning process, financial and operations analysis and quarterly earnings and forecasting methodologies and budgeting process
  • Deliver well-analyzed financial forecasts to support strategic direction and budget, including a long term forecast for the organization on an annual basis
  • Develop and monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance, including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses, operating metrics, and capital expenditures
  • Produce variance analysis, making recommendations for actions where needed, and updating forecasting methodology to reduce variances to expectations
  • Assist the team in monthly and quarterly reporting including executive summary preparation and external reporting documentation for results
  • Improve operating teams' understanding of financial statements and budget adherence with thoughtful and transparent analysis; leveraging icomp scorecards, reporting, and business line products
  • Collaborate with operating teams and influences others on FP&A projects, processes, practices and tools to support the FP&A functionality and provide fact-based recommendations that improve profitability, operating efficiency and effectiveness
  • Establish FP&A as a center of analytical excellence to be shared with functional leaders across the organization
  • Provides ad-hoc support in critical business analytics and reporting
  • Oversee financial systems implementations and integrations; implement a scalable and versatile forecasting and budgeting system that will allow easy Budget Versus Actual (BvA) analysis, scenario modeling, monthly forecasting and re-budgeting;
  • Enhances the financial understanding of business lines, products and segments to aid reporting, forecasting and business decision making
  • Represents organization as the primary contact for specific Financial Planning & Analysis projects and initiatives

Education & Experience

Knowledge of:

  • Demonstrated financial modeling knowledge
  • Deep understanding of budgeting, financial analysis and forecasting principles and best practices to develop meaningful forecasting and analyses


Ability to:

  • Self-directed in completing work and implementing actions as approved
  • Strong analytical, qualitative and problem-solving skills
  • Adhere to strict deadlines
  • Prioritize daily work flow, adapt and thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Perform duties and make decisions under frequent time pressures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships at all levels of management
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with multidimensional database platforms

Education and Training:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration; MBA or advanced degree in finance preferred
  • CPA/CMA preferred; FP&A certification a plus
  • 7 + years of progressive financial experience preferably in the banking industry
  • Proven knowledge of banking industry rules and regulations
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience

Benefits and Compensation

Salary offered is based on factors, including but not limited to, the job duties, required qualifications and relevant experience, and local market trends. The role may be eligible for bonus or incentives based on company and individual performance.

(Base Pay Range: $180,000-$220,000/annually)
